Our Programme

At The Philosopher’s Camp, we provide a safe space for children to be able to think critically, be creative, work collaboratively and problem solve. Children become more self-aware and further improve their communication skills and confidence, acquiring the ability to articulate themselves, in order to make a difference and thrive in any given environment.

Implementation

The benefit of teaching in small groups enables the staff to communicate thoughtfully and listen to conversations amongst the children. Staff work with the children to encourage  healthy listening, thinking, and speaking habits, and will support them to work through their thought processes, to reach an answer, justifying their point of view, alongside respecting differing viewpoints. Perspective taking will be taught, and children will be encouraged to learn to apply this process.

Children will learn through stories and live scenarios throughout the day. They become independent thinkers, connect with others and learn to respect differences. Alongside this, they will master communication skills, problem solving strategies and retain a good level of focus.

Philosophical Enquiry

A facilitator will provide starting stimuli, followed by questions to probe critical thinking skills. A reasoning process which will incorporate evidence, research and experience will be used to analyze the enquiry. Assessing and expanding on ideas will enable the children to break down their thought process further. Finally, children will reach a conclusion or perhaps require further research to look within the enquiry. This process is adapted to the child’s age and maturity.

Emotional Intelligence

Emotional Intelligence and Philosophical Inquiry intertwine.

4 key principles of Emotional Intelligence:

  1. Self-Awareness
  2. Self-Control
  3. Empathy
  4. Social Awareness

A Day at the Camp

At The Philosopher’s Camp, we ignite our day with visualisation, gratitude, deep breathing and affirmations, in order to prepare the children  to embrace the fun day ahead!

Our campers will turn into different professions or perhaps characters from a book, throughout the time at the Camp. They are encouraged to become Doctors, Explorers, Detectives, Artists, and many more. The activities will be based on a profession and a book a week, encouraging the children to come to the camp, dressed up in that attire. Mini Artists, Doctors or perhaps Elsa will roam the grounds of The Philosopher’s Camp.

Star Guest

We will have a Star Guest come to the camp in the afternoon, during the week. We love surprises and  keeping the children engaged; supporting them to become passionate about what they are learning about. In order to do this, we carefully select individuals to share their passion and energy with the children. The guest is chosen based on the skill set we would like the children to acquire. We invite doctors, artists, cricketers, and many more professionals to join our camp.
